Mallery Helmuth

My name is Mallery Helmuth and I grew up close to Monterey in a city called Carmel. I have wanted to be a teacher ever since I was a little girl and I can remember forcing my friends and my brother to play school with me. I have a 5 year old son who is starting Kindergarten here at Del Rey Woods and I look forward to seeing him progress throughout his time here. I completed my service learning and student teaching at Del Rey Woods and to say I am excited to teach here would be an understatement. Del Rey Woods has become my home away from home the past two years and I am excited I am officially a part of the DRW Dolphins!

Favorite subject/thing to teach

My favorite subject to teach is mathematics.

Most memorable experience at Del Rey Woods?

During my student teaching, I was awaiting the results of my teacher credential test in Ms. Ferrante's second grade class (my placement at the time). When I got the email right after school, Ms. Ferrante read it, I passed, and the kids went WILD! I have never felt so loved and so special to have all of those cute little second graders cheering for me. I'll never forget it.

Favorite book

The Language of Flowers, which is written by our superintendent's wife, Vanessa Diffenbaugh. An amazing story about a journey through foster care and beyond.
